Ray McGovern to Speak at Anti – War Rally

Sept. 24th in St. Petersburg

 

St. Petersburg, Florida – On Saturday, September 24th, Ray McGovern, a Washington, D.C. CIA analyst for 27 years and an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration’s intelligence

used to justify the War in  Iraq will be the keynote speaker at “March on Washington -Tampa Bay,” an anti-war rally  at Williams Park  (4th St. and 2nd Ave North)  in St. Petersburg.   Event Hours: 11:30 – 4:30 P.M.                                 Easy PSTA Access 727 530 - 9911

 

While with the CIA, McGovern’s responsibilities included preparing and briefing the Presidential Daily Brief and chairing the National Intelligence Estimates. At retirement he was awarded the Intelligence Commendation Medal.   Over three years ago, when it became clear that intelligence was being fixed to justify an unprovoked war, Ray co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. Mr. McGovern speaks “truth to power” through his work as Co-Director of the Servant Leadership School in Washington, D.C.. which provides training and other support for  the marginalized poor. A coalition of over twenty activist groups, including:  Veterans for Peace, St. Pete for Peace,, St.Pete Food Not Bombs, Refuge Ministries, Pinellas Progressives and Southwest Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, - are organizing the  March on Washington Tampa Bay activities in solidarity with the  March on Washington – End the War in Iraq,  taking place in Washington, D.C. concurrently.   Henry Raines, host of American AM 1490 will be MC..

 

 “Thousands of individuals from around the nation – including a  large number of l Florida peace activists - are traveling to Washington, D.C.  on Sept. 24th .   Our event – March on Washington Tampa Bay - gives Tampa Bay residents the opportunity to engage in much needed education and discourse.,”  said  Samm Simpson, one of the event’s organizers.

 

The day’s activities will include free vegetarian food, music and local speakers  covering a wide variety of topics: counter recruiting techniques at the public high schools,,  conscientious objector status, and alternatives to violence,  Bring your drums for a drum circle, and./or  participate in an late afternoon march with Veterans for Peace.

 

Good will be collected  for Katrina’s storm victims.  Please donate food, water, Gatorade, baby supplies, pet food, and first aid supplies.  Items will be delivered by  The Refuge, St. Pete for Peace, St. Pete Food Not Bombs, Veterans for Peace, Code Pink and others.
